OPENING A PAYPAL ACCOUNT

  1. Go to www.paypal.com. In the upper right-hand corner of the screen, there is a blue button that says “sign up.” Click on this button.
  2. This will take you to a page where you choose what type of account to open. You want PayPal for personal use. Click on the get started button under that heading.
  3. This will take you to a page where you will fill in your personal information. Please use the email address that you use for NCFC communications. This should be the one in the member directory. Once you have filled this out, agree to the terms and conditions and press agree and create account. (This will trigger PayPal to send you an email to confirm your email address. Check your email and click on the verification link in the email to confirm the address with PayPal.)
  4. This will take you to a page where you need to verify that you’re not a robot. If you’re not, type in the code shown, and click continue.

LINKING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT TO PAYPAL

  1. Once you click continue from step 4 above, you'll be directed to a page to link your bank account. Under where it says link your bank account, click on the continue button.
  2. The next screen is where you fill our your bank account information. Be sure and enter the account you use for NCFC purchases. The account number and routing number are both found on your checks. The routing number is usually the first number along the bottom of your checks, and the account number is usually the second. Once you have entered all the necessary information, click continue.
  3. PayPal needs to confirm that you are the owner of this account. There are two ways they do this. One is by verifying your online user ID and password for your online banking account. The other is by making two small deposits into your account and then you verifying the amounts of those deposits. You may use whichever option you prefer. Verifying with your online banking info is instant and very easy, while the deposit option takes a few days to complete and requires a couple more steps.
  4. If you verify instantly, you will simply need to enter your online banking user name/ID and password. Click to continue, and PayPal will do the rest. Once they have established that you own the account, the screen will say one last step and you’re ready to use PayPal. Below that it will say link debit or credit card. You must link a credit or debit card to ensure instant transfers. Otherwise, they will send an e-check, which is no faster than a paper check.
  5. If you verify by having PayPal make two small deposits into your account, you’ll have to check your transaction history in a day or two and record the amounts of the deposits. PayPal will send you an email with instructions on how to enter the deposit amounts and verify your account that way. When you are logged in to your PayPal account and on your Overview page, you will see confirm bank account on the right-hand side of the screen. When you click this, it will take you to a page where you can enter those two deposits and confirm your account
  6. You must link a credit or debit card to your account. Either follow the link at the end of step 4 above, or click on Profile, which is the last link on the right under the My Accounts tab. Under there, click Update Card to go to the page where you enter your card information. Fill out all the information for your debit or credit card (this card will not be used for anything unless your bank account can't cover the amount you've sent. In that case, PayPal will automatically use the credit/debit card on file to cover the amount) and click Add Card.

PAYING PCs WITH PAYPAL

  1. The next time you log into your PayPal account, you will be prompted to choose two security questions. Choose the two questions, type in the answers, and press submit.
  2. This will take you to the Overview page. It should say Welcome, [your name] and below that it should say Account Type: Personal and Status: Verified. These mean you are ready to use PayPal for NCFC purchases. If it says Status: Unverified, don't worry, it just means you have not yet finished linking your bank account and must complete this to make purchases. Below this, you will see that it says PayPal Balance: $0. This is fine. You do not need a balance here to use the service. PayPal will pull the money right out of your bank account to make payments.
  3. At the top of the screen you will see tabs. The second tab over says Send Money. This is what you will use to make NCFC purchases. Once at that screen, type in the email address of the person you want to send money to. Then type in the amount you want to send them. Finally, you must select the Personal tab and select one of the options listed there. It doesn’t matter which option you pick. I recommend varying it, that way we might fly under the radar a bit.It is VERY IMPORTANT that you choose the Personal tab, or the PC will be charged a fee. Once you have all the data entered, click continue.
  4. You will verify your payment on the next screen. It will give you an overview of who you are paying and how much. Verfiy the person, the amount, and that you are not being charged a fee. Also, make sure that the correct payment method is selected. PayPal will often default to your credit/debit card or Bill Me Later (if you have this service) instead of your checking account because this is where they make their money. Click change under Payment Method if it is not correct. You can also include a message with your payment if you want/need to. If all is well, click Send Money.
  5. The next page will say The money has been sent! A receipt will be immediately sent to you and the recipent via email. (If you have a smart phone, you can check your email to verify the payment.) Also on this page is a button that says Add to Contact Book. Add this email address to your contacts, and then it will be even quicker to send a payment next time.
  6. If you click Go to My Account, you will be taken back to your Overview page where you will be able to see the transaction right away. The transaction has posted on PayPal, but has NOT been taken out of your bank account yet. It will be taken out of your bank account and transfered to the PC's PayPal account within 24 hours.
